“Dugi Otok” literally translates as “Long Island”, however, it is only the seventh-largest island in the Adriatic sea. The island is recognizable for its distinctive shape, and it is definitely the most descriptive island in Croatia. Dugi Otok consists of Sali and Božava, as well as the nearby places and villages, and Nature Park Telašćica. Beautiful beaches, natural parks, old olive groves, pine forests and an abundance of cultural and sacral heritage – that’s Sali for you! Have you heard of beach Sakarun? Of course, you have – after all, it was declared as one of the most beautiful natural beaches in the world and was included in the “Most Beautiful Bays in the World” club. This 800 meters long sandy beach can be found in the North-West part of the island near Veli Rat, Soline, Božava, and Verunić.
Apart from the beautiful beaches and unbelievably clear sea, the Veli Rat area is also recognizable for the secluded Lighthouse Veli Rat, surrounded by the forest on one side, and the sea on the other.
Božava, on the other hand, offers a quiet and relaxing holiday, crystal blue sea and beautiful small stone beaches surrounded by pine trees, like beach Opatičina. This small pebbled beach in an idyllic, shady bay of the same name is accessible only by foot or sea.
When you come to Dugi Otok, stop by Nature Park Telašćica – unique bay, 200 meters high rocks, lake Mir and its healing mud and Mediterranean vegetation await your arrival. Nature Park Telašćica is a place where nature has shown the true power of its creativity. One look at the salty lake Mir will take your breath away, and so will the park’s cliffs.
If you’re a real nature lover, then Dugi Otok is a perfect destination for you! Explore the rich and diverse nature, relax on the natural beaches and afford yourself an unforgettable vacation on the Adriatic Sea!
